Well, Ive had my RZR for over a year, and still dont have it registered with DNR, mainly for the fact that I have HEARD that once registered in Harrison County I get the luxury and honor of paying property tax on it. Can anyone clear this nasty rumor up for me?

I have heard that that is a thing of the past, but that is only hear say. I do not know for sure.
I would guess that anyone with a Polaris should NOT have to pay taxes on it.....Heck you already have to pay so much for parts constantly, and maybe a tow bill or 2!!

from what DNR had said, they did away with the property taxes when they made the rule you had to title them...
DNR has nothing to do w/ property tax and there is no rule to title ATV's. Titles are bank rules for loans---and township assessors somehow have access to titles-and they do tax ATV's in Vanderburgh County I know. Never title an ATV unless you have to for your bank--the BMV prefers not to title them.
Taxes on ATV's is bull-crud and unfortunately each county and even townships vary on taxing ATV's-------I wonder if there is IN.GOV site we can find on the tax rules.

Just trying to keep my money in my pocket...lol. The new boat is soon to have Indiana numbers.... I couldn't get out of the tax on this one. But I do have an interesting story about the $$$ on the bill of sale, but I won't post it here.

The DNR didn't do it, the state did. Also, after many many hours in the BMV this past week, it is state law that any machine bought after Jan 1 2006 must be titled. This is from first hand knowledge from selling the prowler and having to get it titled for the new owner...
I wish I knew where the info was the Nila pointed me to about the "title and no property tax rule"..

Titling them is a real "gray" area.... They don't exactly have to be titled (the State police won't come get you), but most banks require them for collateral. Companies like Sheffield (who we deal with) don't require it, they (actually, we) put a lien holder on the C of O. Once the machine is paid off, you'll simply get a letter in the mail from the lien holder stating the lien has been satisfied. You should staple that letter to the C of O.
As Cub has found out, its a real PITA to title one. IMO, if your bank doesn't require it, then don't do it. But this makes it harder to sell if the second owner needs financing. If the second owner doesn't borrow money, all you need to do is fill out a bill of sale (notarized) and sign off on the C of O.

It is a major pain...if titling them "late"! Even if the second owner doesnt need financing, it still causes this. I had a major run around with how the tax was paid at time of sale, and other things.
I tried the above mentioned sign off, bill of sale, and payoff statement and the Jasper BMV WOULD NOT TAKE IT! I had to title it in my name before they would transfer it because as of 01/01/06 all off road vehicles had to be titled with the state. SInce I hadn't done that, the CofO couldn't be transfered...
